Snoring is one such problem that most people don???t take very seriously. However, you must understand that a simple problem can lead to the bigger one.

That exactly is the case with snoring. Actually, you snore because of the loosening of the tissues which are in your throat. If you will not take care of this situation, it can lead to sleep apnea that can make living difficult for you.

Sleep apnea is a disorder where tissues in your throat get collapsed to block the air flow. This can wake you up in the middle of the night. It will not only be annoying, but, it will create some bad impacts on your health because of not getting enough sleep. This is known as sleep deprivation which is truly undesirable.

Actually, sleep apnea is all about pauses that people observe while breathing in sleep. These pauses may be for seconds or it may be for longer time. With greater pause, situation can get critical as this will wake you up and this will lead to sleep deprivation. Sleep deprivation is not the only problem associated with sleep apnea, but, there are some other issues as well. For instance, sleep apnea increases the chances of getting heart attack, high blood pressure and diabetes. However, there are only few of the implications of sleep apnea. So, you must never take it lightly and try to solve this issue as soon as possible.

It is pertinent to mention that there are lots of people who face this problem, but, the worst thing is that most doctors don???t become able to diagnose it. Actually, people, who may be suffering from sleep apnea, don???t become able to inform a doctor about their problem. It can only be mentioned if some family member will observer you while sleeping.

Treatment of sleep apnea will be all about dealing with your symptoms. For instance, you will be given the medications to deal with snoring which is symptom of sleep apnea. However, there are many other ways in which sleep apnea is handled. For instance, mouthpieces are used to deal with mild sleep apnea.

Apart from this, you may also have to use a breathing mask to get sufficient air. Finally, surgery is the way to deal with sleep apnea. Your doctor will have a look on the symptoms and severity of sleep apnea to prescribe a proper treatment.

Although, dealing with sleep apnea is difficult, but, you can handle the situation by changing your lifestyle. First of all, you must leave alcohol and smoking. If you think that you are having excessive weight, then you must do some exercises to strip extra weight.

Also, you will have to stay in touch with your doctor to get the medications according to your symptoms and conditions. Finally, you must talk with your family about your condition to get moral support. If you will do all these things, you will surely be able to recover quicker than usual.

Good sleep induces happiness in the mind, relaxation in the body and rejuvenation in its every component; it also enhances mental talents and intellect. It helps eliminate the defects and weaknesses and ensures harmonious balance between healthy functions of the body.

If a person doesn’t follow the usual pattern of sleep, it affects Doshas. Sleeping in daytime increases Kapha Dosha and makes the body excessive unctuous and staying awake till late at night increases Vata that can cause various health problems Lack of sleep hampers digestion, clouds the mental state and burdens many organs. Sleep deprivation is linked to high blood pressure and depression, among other things.

Sleep is important because it enhances Ojas which is considered in Ayurveda to be the master coordinator between mind, body and the inner self. Ojas is the finest product of digestion, the main life-supporting force within the body. It acts like a shock absorber, helping to insulate the mind from day-to-day stress and enhancing the body’s innate immune systems.

Diet and Lifestyle Recommendations

For a Vata sleep imbalance, indicated by difficulty in falling asleep, foods that are warm, heavy and oily are emphasized. Emphasize the sweet, salty and sour tastes, and cut down on spicy, bitter and astringent foods. Include poppy seeds in your diet.

Drinking a cup of herbal tea before bed can also be soothing. Apply a little massage oil to your hands and feet before you go to bed. In bed, practice deep, easy breathing to help you unwind.

Follow a Pitta pacifying diet if you tend to wake up during the night. Incorporate foods that are cool and liquid, and reduce hot, spicy foods. Sweet, bitter, astringent foods are good; reduce foods that are spicy, salty or sour. Try Date Milk Shake, and include poppy seeds in your diet.

Apply cooling oil such as coconut or olive to hands and feet before bed. Practice deep, easy breathing in bed.

If you wake up feeling dull and lethargic, a Kapha sleep imbalance, favor foods that are light, dry and warm, and minimize or avoid foods that are heavy, oily and cold. Focus on spicy, bitter and astringent tastes, and reduce sweet, salty and sour tasting foods.

Massaging hands and feet, especially the nail-beds, with a massage oil will help.

Here are ten Ayurvedic tips for blissful sleep:

1.Eat three meals during the day breakfast, lunch around noon and an early dinner.

2.Do regular balanced exercise.

3.Try to go to bed by 10 p.m., during the drowsy Kapha time of night, so that your mind can settle down faster.

4.Eliminate or restrict severely the intake of stimulants such as caffeine or alcohol.

5.Wear comfortable clothing to bed, cotton is highly recommended.

6.Do not bring work-related material into the bedroom.

7.Keep your bedroom dark or very dimly lit.

There are various factors that affect the sleep. The more active one is, the healthier a person is, the better they sleep.

Food

The evidence for the direct effects of food on sleep tends to be fairly meager. On should try and have dinner as early as possible and should not sleep immediately after it. Dinner should be the lightest meal of all the meals taken during the day and should not be skipped.

Alcohol

With small doses of alcohol, it acts as a relaxant so one goes to sleep. Slightly higher doses means the brain is not going to awaken as readily so in a sense the sleep is a little bit deeper but it is actually its ability to response that has changed. The brain can’t react as quickly as we would want to. Associated with that is poorer breathing, snoring and disturbed sleep.

Caffeine

Caffeine’s an interesting compound in that people vary in how they react to it. An example is women who are pregnant may suddenly react very badly to having caffeine, and then after can drink it again. It probably impacts mainly on the wakefulness promoting system. It doesn’t actually prevent sleep by switching sleep off; it just makes us more alert.

Medicines

Most medicines have an impact on sleep, particularly if they’re psycho active. So those that are used in psychiatry, say for depression will have an impact on sleep. Medicines normally relax our reflexes so they make the person sleep.

Smoking

Smokers can have quite a hard time of sleeping. Time for which nicotine is actually active in the bloodstream is quite low. So as soon as they’ve stopped smoking the reaction of not having nicotine around that time can disturb sleep. Generally their circulatory systems are quite poor so their breathing is disturbed during sleep. The two add up together to not having a good night sleep.

Exercise

It’s a myth that people think that if they really Exercise hard prior to going to bed, they’re going to get a better night’s sleep. But in fact, the exercise itself at that point can both be a stress and can raise body temperature and can create a problem. But Exercising regularly leads to good health, and that experimentally has been shown to generally improve sleep.

It is for varied reasons that sleep studies are carried out. Researchers want to know what causes the problems of abrupt awakening also known as Night terror. A patient in this health condition abruptly gets up from sleep, especially at night, terrorized. Tests for sleep terror disorder are usual behavioral tests. Physicians attempt to through sleep disorder tests verify the nature of a patient’s sleep disorder. Whether it is Narcolepsy also known as sleep apnea or momentary seizure as you sleep at night, tests carried out while you are actually sleeping help to show your level of ‘Restless leg syndrome’.

Sleep study tests procedure for nearly all patients are normally done within a calm hotel bedchamber . 8 surface electrodes are linked to your scalp with a particular glue. The routine will show your physician the degree of sleep disorder on a very special video recording of your eye movements and brain waves. Muscle tone is read during test using Electrodes put under your chin. Some other Electrodes will be placed at the lower parts of your legs to record the degree of leg actions. The technician will also place some special Elastic bands on your chest and abdomen to record your breathing level. Your finger will also be attached to a probe to measure your oxygen level while your heart beat rate is routinely recorded using patches the techie placed on your chest. The whole process is monitored by the techie in charge with a data recording equipment from an adjoining room.

Before the test, instructions will be given to you by intercom to do certain tasks in order to confirm that the equipment is performing as it should. Then the study begins with “Good Night”! And you are expected to sleep for a period of at least six hours. A child can sleep up to eight hours. The techie will fix the Continuous Positive Air Pressure (CPAP) machine, which is an interface device, on you, after he or she has collected the necessary respiratory information. CPAP is the sleep disorder care product that specialists recommend as the beginning of sleep apnea care. CPAP sends filtered air into your nostrils to ensure that your airway remains open. The cure of “obstructive sleep apnea”, according to sleep specialists , has been greatly enhanced with CPAP.

The above is essentially the procedure for conducting a sleep disorder test. All necessary and compulsory precaution are usually adhered to, before fitting CPAP or BiPAP machine to you. Subsequently collection of data goes on as you sleep. The data is checked against your (RDI), respiratory disturbance index. It is expected that you should within an hour record at least 20 respiratory indications, with at least a 2 percent fall in oxygen saturation.

After a long day at school or at work, a person likes nothing better than to go home and relax. This relaxation is usually accompanied by a good night of sleep, which leaves the person rejuvenated to start their day when they wake up. Well, that is the ideal scenario, but the reality is that many people end up not being able to go to sleep at all.

When these symptoms persist for long periods at a time, the person is suffering from insomnia. Some of the more extreme cases of insomnia can lead to hospitalization.

Why? Because without the eight hours of sleep a night the body needs, mental and physical problems start to happen. A person’s mental clarity becomes diminished, and the body starts to ache. In fact, in a court of law, those who have not gotten any sleep for three consecutive days are considered incompetent to testify.

All of this being said, insomnia is not actually a sleep disorder, but rather a result of something else. This could be in reference to a health condition. Say, for example, that a person is having trouble with their heart, and frequent heart pains keep them awake at night.

If the person is already on medication for this heart problem, then this could be a side effect, or it could be a problem with the medication. If the person has not had their heart problem checked, they should immediately seek medical treatment.

Sometimes, causes of insomnia do not have to do with health issues as much as they have to do with lifestyle issues. Take, for example, a person who has a busy career, but also an active social life.

This is the kind of person who will work long hours, and then after their job, go party all night until it is time for work again. Obviously, this is not a healthy lifestyle, because even if the person could sleep, the person does not have time to, and all of the adrenaline from the day/night’s events will keep the person awake anyway.

Another thing to keep in mind is coffee consumption. Millions of people drink coffee each and every day, with some people drinking large amounts of it many times a day.

While some health-conscious people will choose to get decaffeinated coffee, most people prefer to get the caffeinated version, because they need something that will keep them awake during work. Caffeine is a stimulant, which, over time, builds up in the bloodstream.

Caffeine is definitely not good for the heart, and it is definitely not good for a person’s sleeping habits. It can actually keep a person awake during the night! Caffeine is not just found in coffee, it is also found in many regular soft drinks.

So, rather than ingesting caffeine, people should instead think about getting into the right sleeping pattern so that they will not need the caffeine to keep them awake in the first place. So, the next time you are having trouble sleeping, make sure you find out the causes.

Sleep is required for the body to work properly, mature, and heal after being injured. Most studies recommend that adults need between six and eight hours of sleep nightly. A number of people, however, are unable to do this. Up to 20 million Americans alone have serious struggles sleeping every night.

Several elements that create sleep disorders are responsible for this startling fact. For instance, a large number of people snore. Deep snoring sometimes can cause sleeping persons to wake, in a start, by this noise. Additionally, people with a spouse that is a loud snorer often have trouble sleeping with such a racket occurring in the same room!

Snoring may also be indicative of a similar sleeping disorder called sleep apnea. This problem can happen when an individual stops breathing during sleep. Sleep apnea is sometimes from blockages in the nose and sinus passages, or as a result of being overweight. This problem is potentially deadly, and persons who are diagnosed with sleep apnea usually wear a mask that delivers pressurized air to their lungs while they are sleeping.

Sleep apnea may cause narcolepsy, a different sleeping disturbance. At times, however, people who do not suffer from sleep apnea may develop narcolepsy. Persons who have this problem often go to sleep unexpectedly and without warning in any place or at any time. If a person is being treated for this problem, the physician typically prescribes that patient to refrain from driving before the problem is being treated effectively; going to sleep while driving is extremely hazardous!

Another potentially dangerous sleeping problem is called sleepwalking, and is also described referred to in medical literature as somnambulism. Persons who sleepwalk engage in the identical activities – cleaning house, taking a shower, climbing stairs, et cetera – that they do while they are awake. Nearly one-fifth of the population worldwide may sleepwalk.

In some instances, people have even been reported to have left their homes or committed murder while sleepwalking! Most often, however, the person who is sleepwalking is in much more danger than the persons around him or her. The recommended course of action is to get the individual back to bed.

Another problem called shift work sleep disorder is sometimes reported by individuals whose work schedule involves alternating shift schedules, afternoon, or night shifts. This condition can result in one of two categories of sleep difficulties: excessive tiredness, or insomnia. Moreover, people who suffer from this disorder experience higher likelihood of cancer than individuals who do not have it.

Persons diagnosed with insomnia often have trouble falling asleep at bedtime. In the event that they are able to go to sleep, they typically cannot sleep soundly and are awakened easily. They might only sleep several hours before experiencing this disturbance.

The consequences of insomnia are feeling sleepy during the day and decreased physical functioning. Despite the fact that individuals who suffer from insomnia frequently feel sleepy, however, those who suffer from chronic insomnia often realize that they are perpetually overly alert, and cannot easily relax or remain calm. Other potential side effects of insomnia are physical and emotional fatigue.

Many people believe they know how to treat insomnia. Some of these include some odd home remedies for insomnia. One such cure is a concoction of burnt cinnamon in hot water, although there is no concrete evidence demonstrating that this mixture, or insomnia hypnotherapy. Professionals who use insomnia hypnosis help sufferers to develop beneficial sleep routines by teaching a group of suggestive thoughts that will allow them to get to sleep with less difficulty. People are taught the skills of self-hypnosis to help them treat this problem. Self-hypnosis is a form of insomnia hypnosis that is often very effective for suggestive persons, but is much less helpful for clients who think analytically. A very comparable strategy, called Neuro-Linguistic Programming, or NLP, is nearly always more useful for these persons.

So many possible treatments for sleeplessness exist that this article cannot cover them all. Experts do not agree about how to cure insomnia. Most clients who have encountered NLP and insomnia hypnosis, however, have reported them to be highly effective in have helped them to get uninterrupted, peaceful sleep. These innovative and helpful approaches, unlike drugs or other alternative cures, does not have any hangover or adverse effects, and can be used almost anywhere.

Summary: Between five and ten percent of Americans experiences some form of sleeping problem. Insomnia is a sleep problem that stops people from getting to sleep or sleeping well each night. A number of techniques have been used to help them effectively manage this disorder. One of the most effective, as described by people who have tried this treatment method, is hypnotherapy for insomnia.

The best course of treatment for sleep apnea as far as doctors are concerned is called continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP). C P A P blows air into the sleeper’s airway through a mask fitted over the nose and mouth, forcing the air way to stay open and eliminating both snoring and apnea episodes. Continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) is the effective noninvasive medical treatment to eliminate snoring and prevent sleep apnea. The CPAP consists of a portable machine that has a mask, tubes and fan. The patient is required to wear the sealed mask that is connected to a long hose, over the nose during sleep.

Cpap prevents the upper airway disturbance by pushing a constant steady stream of air through a mask worn while sleeping, effectively forcing the air passages to stay open allowing a patient to breathe, and alleviates the apneas. Continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP)- this treatment requires the patient to wear a mask covering the mouth and/or nose during sleep. An air blower is attached to the mask, forcing air into the upper airway. This constant and continuous air pressure can be regulated and prevents the tissue in the back of the throat from collapsing during sleep. CPAP is not a cure-all, it is required the patient use the device regularly and follow the doctor???s instructions to avoid apnea episodes. One type of treatment for sleep apnea is called continuous positive airway pressure, i.e. CPAP. This is a machine that helps regulate the pressure to your airway and maintains your breathing. There are a variety of machines and masks available, but they are all basically the same. There are masks that fit just over the nose, and mouth or one that uses prongs inserted into the nose. Air pressure through the mask keeps the throat open and clears the obstructions thus allowing you to breathe normally. Some machines even learn your breathing patterns and help you regulate the pressure accordingly throughout the night.

Another great advantage of automatic CPAP machines is that they’re really two machines in one. You get a CPAP machine which adjusts pressure automatically, and you also get a machine which can be set to deliver a constant pressure just like a regular CPAP machine. This flexibility in functionality is attractive to many CPAP users, especially to those who are using CPAP equipment for the first time.

Have you ever thought about how badly we treat our noses? It is assaulted by pungent odors, abused involuntarily by toxic chemicals, assaulted by pollen, mold and mildew spores. Some people blow smoke thorough their nostrils or snort illicit mind altering chemicals into this wonderful creation.

Is such a prominent component of our facial features, capable of triggering nerve receptors designed to stimulate cavernous memory sensations stored in the brain worthy of such abuse?

Think about it, additional parts of the body are treated with much more reverence and respect. Hands and feet are ceremoniously detailed by manicures and pedicures. Teeth are brushed and polished to precision by agents comparable to the buffing and polishing agents applied to luxury sport cars. Do I dear mention the irrigation techniques developed by the elite to cleanse their bottoms? Yes, our hair is richly conditioned and our lips are well balmed with hydrating moisturizers and your skin is soft and supple. However, beyond an occasional blow into a handkerchief or an exploratory excavation to improve aesthetic appearances and nasal passage comfort; what are you doing to assist this wonderful design to help you?

Fall has arrived; Ragweed is flying and wreaking havoc among millions of allergy and sinusitis sufferers. To the detriment of the nose, oral medications are ingested with nominal effects of improving nasal congestion. The time has come for a paradigm shift to proclaim demands for a pampered snout. Nasal hygiene is the solution and Pulsatile Irrigation helps you achieve it! Respiraid is a company introducing a system that delivers a gentle pulsating stream of buffered saline solution to wash out unwanted pollens and foreign matter aggravating the gateway to your respiratory pathways. Your nose is the structure that houses the mucociliary system; a transportation system dependent on lubricants and motile hair-like structures called cilia that capture and move unwanted allergens and materials to the back of the nose to be swallowed, spat, sneezed, or coughed out. Avoiding proper maintenance of this important system can result in sinusitis, nasal polyps and asthma exacerbations.

Is your spouse keeping you up at night because of glass-breaking, earth-rumbling symphonies attributed to snoring? Teach your spouse the principles of sinus irrigation and you may be treated to a restful night sleep characteristic of the slumber realized on an expensive space-age foam mattress at a fraction of the cost. Moreover, more harmonious marital relationships are reported to be attributed to a single use of this practical, technological improvement of an early technique mastered by ancient Yogis. Ancient Yogis used to sniff a handful of a salt-water solution and pulsate it in harmony with the beating cilia in their noses to expedite the clearance of gunk aggravating their beloved noses. The good news is, you do not have to spend years in a classroom in meditative contortions working towards a higher level of consciousness to master this technique…Pulsatile Irrigation has arrived!

Yes, if we will only open our minds (and noses) to recognize that modern medicine can work synergistically with ancient eastern forms of medicine and therapeutic interventions; we all may be surprised at how well we can adapt to pollen, dander, mold and mildew. Below is a list of resources to help you take the giant leap to nasal equality and begin to learn how to care for your humble nose.

All patients are encouraged to direct their specific questions to their personal physicians. The information is written to help patients better understand and participate in their own medical care.

The phenomenon of sleep has intrigued scientists for a very long time now. Many of its facets have been studied in detail and quite a few results have come to light. Although still a mysterious activity for us humans it has nevertheless been found that sleep has many positives associated with it.

For instance, a good night???s sleep replenishes bodies used up energy; it helps in augmenting memory, and helps in improving the learning capability of the human beings. Howsoever not everybody is able to enjoy a good night???s sleep. There are many disorders that are associated with sleep. Some of the most common are sleep apnea, insomnia, narcolepsy, and restless leg syndrome. Among all such sleep disorders sleep apnea is the most perilous disorder. In sleep apnea the patient finds it difficult to breathe during sleeping. The problem of sleep apnea is associated with loud snoring although not all the people who snore suffer from this disorder. What happens during sleep apnea is that the person???s effort to inhale air creates a suction that leads to the collapsing of the wind pipe. The airflow is thus blocked for some 10 seconds to a minute and hence the person ends up struggling to breathe properly. This leads to a fall in the blood oxygen level. When that happens the brain awakens the person enough to open the windpipe. The person might snort or sometimes gasp and then resume snoring. This cycle might repeat itself for say a hundred times in a single night. The frequent disturbance during the night of a sleep apnea patient might lead to some personality disorders like, depression or irritability or some other mental disorder. Some of the major sleep apnea symptoms are morning headaches, decline in mental functioning, and reduced interest in sex, sometimes irregular heartbeats and an increased risk of heart attack.

People who are suffering from sleep apnea should immediately get themselves treated. There are several sleep apnea treatments that the patient can undergo. One of the most common is the CPAP treatment. There are also many sleep labs available where the patient can get himself treated. These sleep labs offer various facilities to the patient which the patient can avail.

What is snoring?
Before discovering cures for snoring its important to understand what causes the problem in the first place.Snoring is caused due to the vibration of the respiratory tract including the Uvula and soft palate, this happens due to obstruction during breathing whilst sleeping, causing a level of blockage and restricts and creates irregular airflow.

Here’s just some causes:
*While sleeping the throat closes up partially due to throat weakness.
* Dispositional jaw is caused due to tension in muscles.
* Unwanted and excessive fat gathers around the throat
*Nasal passageway is obstructed.

Snoring in anybody’s language is a pretty irritating and frustrating noise especially for those lying wide awake next to someone whose snoring their head off.

Cures and treatments for snoring
Its really important to get professional help and advice as some snoring can be considered quite a mild affliction (but very annoying!) However heavy snoring can be an indication of more serious conditions that require treatment. Visit your doctor initially. He or she may refer you to a otolaryngologist i.e. the ENT surgeon (ear, nose and throat specialist) who after performing tests may conclude some of the following methods of treatment:

Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP)
A machine placed by your bedside blows pressurized air into the mask which you wear over your face or nose that helps you to keep your airway open while sleeping. This really works and I speak from personal experience. Its strange to begin with but you soon get used to it and the result of waking up feeling refreshed is great.

Lower jaw positioners, dental appliances and Oral devices
Dental devices can help open your airway, which are similar to those used as mouth guards and which are worn by athletes. These dental devices helps you cure your snoring by bringing your tongue or lower jaw forward while you are sleeping.

Most of the dental devices are flexible. These dental devices can be fitted around your head and chin to adjust your position of lower jaw, while others are acrylic and can fit inside your mouth. You can get the help from a dentist specializing in sleeping disorder to fit you any one of these devices.

Surgery – Is It Right for You ?
There are some surgical procedures that offer cures for snoring, which can help cure your snoring problem. They include Adenoidectomy, Uvulopalatopharyngoplasty (UPPP) and Thermal Ablation Palatoplasty (TAP), which removes tissues or corrects abnormalities surgically by increasing the size of your airway.

Some operations involve removing adenoids, tonsils or the excess tissue, located at the back of the throat or inside the nose. A surgeon can also reconstruct the jaw. However it has to be said that in most instances surgery is considered the last option after the more passive routes (including some listed here) have been exhausted.

New Surgical Cure for Snoring
A new surgery named as the Pillar procedure or Palatal implantation has shown significant results to help cure snoring. In this surgery small plastic implants, which are less than an inch long in size, are inserted using a syringe like instrument into the soft palate. This operation can be performed under local anaesthesia . This surgery cause little pain and very mild side effects. Around the plastic implants the scar tissue builds up. This causes the tissue of the soft palate to become stiff which helps to cease the vibrations that cause snoring.

Bear in mind the cost of this surgery is the expense. Many healthcare insurances do not cover surgery for snoring, so you need to check with your healthcare insurance provider first and it can be a very nasty shock if you have to end up paying for it!

In this article we have tried to outline in very brief form just some of the possible cures for snoring options, however it must be stressed this is not medical advice – you must visit your Doctor who is best placed to advise on the best course of action and possible treatment methods for your individual circumstances.
